Dare I say, “It’s that time of year again”? Dare I say, “Winter is finally over”? Dare I say…well, I’m going to say it, “Bring on Spring!”
Spring is almost here and with that brings the terms, “spring cleaning”, “spring forward”, and even, “spring training”. Yup, spring is a great time to get yourself back in shape and feeling healthy again. Here are WOW! Work Out World’s Five Tips to help you get started this season:
Tip 1: Make sure you set a realistic goal and schedule for your spring workouts.
If it’s been a while, please consult a doctor or get an annual check-up to make sure you are OK to start your new workout routine. When setting a schedule, don’t shoot to work out every day because you may become discouraged if life prevents you from getting to the gym a day or two during the week. It’s OK. Just set small goals at first, and do your best to stick with them. Never give up. If you miss your goals, it’s motivation to do better, not to throw in the towel.
Tip 2: Find a workout partner.
Do you have friends who are looking to spring back into shape? Studies show that people who have a workout buddy tend to stick to their goals more than if you work out alone. So, find a pal to go with you at least once a week. You will motivate each other. WOW! even lets you bring a friend for free!
Tip 3: Buy new workout shoes.
When was the last time you bought a new pair of shoes? You should replace workout shoes once a year – every 6 months if you work out more often. Make sure you ask for assistance while shopping for shoes, and try on multiple pairs until you find the perfect ones. They will make a huge difference, not only for comfort, but for confidence as well.
Tip 4: Stretch and hydrate!
Stretching is the best way to avoid injury when getting back into a workout routine. And not just a couple bends and squats – I mean, really stretch. A minimum of 10 minutes is recommended before any strenuous activity. And always hydrate before, during, and after your workout. Tip 5: Enjoy your workout!
If it’s boring or too difficult, you will not continue to do it. Find a workout routine you look forward to. Try a Group X class at WOW! Try a new sport. Create a new playlist for different days of the week. Just know that half of the battle is actually getting to the gym or track or field, and the rest will fall into place.
